NASW-NJ Awards

Celebrating Excellence and Service in Social Work

All active members of NASW-NJ are invited to nominate individuals for these prestigious awards: 

  • Social Worker of the Year
  • Lifetime Achievement
  • Public Citizen of the Year
  • Elected Public Official of the Year  
  • Outstanding Service Award

Deadline for 2017 Award Nominations is Monday, April 17, 2017.

The NASW-NJ Executive Committee will review nominations and determine recipients of these Awards. Recipients will be personally notified and we will announce their selection in FOCUS.

Social Worker of the Year

The Social Worker of the Year Award honors a member of NASW-NJ who exemplifies the best of the profession's values and achievements through recent, specific accomplishments.  In honoring the Social Worker of the Year, NASW-NJ highlights superb accomplishments in the practice of social work. 

Nomination Procedure

Members may nominate another member by submitting the following:

  • Completed nomination form. Click here to download the form. 
     
  • One-page summary that describes: 

- What the social worker has accomplished

- What risks the social worker took to achieve results

- Who the beneficiaries were 

  • Resume
     
  • Three letters of support from three endorsers.

 


 

Lifetime Achievement

Each year, NASW-NJ selects a social worker for this award to celebrate a lifetime of professional accomplishments.  In honoring the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, NASW-NJ recognizes the best in social work values and accomplishments demonstrated throughout a social worker's career. 

Nomination Procedure

Members may nominate a social worker by submitting the following:

  • Completed nomination form. Click here to download the form.
     
  • One-page summary of demonstrated contributions that describes:

- What was outstanding about the nominee's action(s)

- Risks the nominee took to achieve results

- What the nominee accomplished

- Who the beneficiaries were

- What the long-term effect was achieved 

  • Resume 
     
  • Three letters of support from three endorsers.

 


 

Public Citizen of the Year

NASW-NJ established the Public Citizen of the Year Award to honor an outstanding member of the community whose accomplishments exemplify the values and mission of professional social work.  The recipient of this award is not a social worker.

Nomination Procedure

Members may nominate a public citizen (non-social worker) by submitting the following:

  • Completed official nomination form. Click here to download the form. 
     
  • One page-summary that describes:

     - What the nominee accomplished

     - What the consequences were

     - Who the beneficiaries were 

     - How the nominee's accomplishments relate to social work 
  • Resume
     
  • Three letters of support from three endorsers. 

 Elected Public Official of the Year

Elected officials make decisions about a broad range of issues including policies that affect social justice, health care, education, civil and human rights, and social work practice. NASW-NJ established an annual award to recognize the outstanding service and contributions of an elected official.  Special consideration will be given to social workers elected to public office.

Nomination Procedure

Members may nominate a elected public official by submitting the following:

  • One page-summary that describes:

- Nature of leadership demonstrated on issues of concern to the social work profession

- Short and long-term effect of his or her leadership

- How the social work profession and those served are affected 

  • Resume
     
  • Three letters of support from three endorsers.

 


 

Outstanding Service Awards


The Outstanding Service Award is given to NASW-NJ members or a community-based social work program for outstanding service to their local communities.  Each of the Chapter Units will have the opportunity to nominate a Unit member or location organization for this Award.

Through these Awards, NASW-NJ recognizes the best social work values and accomplishments demonstrated by our members' and organizations' contribution to the profession of social work within their community.

Criteria

  1. The Nomination of a person or organization as an Award recipient should come from one or more members of the nominating NASW-NJ Unit.
  2. The Award recipient must have been actively involved in clinical or macro social work practice and/or made significant contributions to the success of the NASW-NJ Unit.
  3. The recipient must have had a primary role in an impactful community project or NASW-NJ Unit event during the past year, demonstrated a consistent adherence to the NASW Code of Ethics, and set a high standard of professionalism for other helping professionals to follow.
