New Jersey Political Action for Candidate Election (PACE):
Building Political Power for Social Workers
Political Action for Candidate Election (PACE) is the political action arm of the National Association of Social Workers.
As a political action committee, PACE endorses and financially contributes to candidates from any party who support NASW's policy agenda. The New Jersey PACE Board of Trustees endorses and contributes to local candidates running for State Assembly and Senate; national PACE decides on national U.S. Congressional races.
How does PACE strengthen NASW and the social work profession? PACE helps elect and build relationships with candidates who support NASW issues and the social work profession, which leads to future legislative victories. Donating money to key candidates helps to make NASW more visible to policymakers who can support our causes, which shows that our professional organization is politically active and advocating on your behalf.
What does PACE do?
Your local NJ PACE compiles voting records for state elected officials, makes endorsements, donates money in the name of NASW, and mobilizes members to get out the vote in targeted races.
Why should I donate?
It is important for social workers to be politically active, as we can shape the policies that affect clients and can represent our profession’s interests. It is far easier to elect the right people to make the right policies rather than spending time and money later to get the wrong people to do the right thing YOU understand how policies affect people more than anyone. WE need to be heard as a strong voice of more than 7,600 members. Increasingly, local, state, and federal policy making and legislation has to do with social service issues. Experience and understanding of the social service delivery system is essential for effective public policy making.
How can I donate?
Funds come from YOU, either as part of your membership renewal form or anytime throughout the year. As a PAC (Political Action Committee), NASW PACE can only accept donations from its members. You can donate online by clicking HERE. With the current cutbacks, it’s crucial for social workers to become active and understand how the political process impacts their clients and themselves.
